Frequently Asked Questions
We live in a small apartment, is our space too small for lessons and to practice in between ?
You will need much less space than you think, because the trick to learning to dance together is to be close, so as long as you can out stretch your arms fully and take three steps forwards, that is sufficient
We want to keep our First Dance a surprise from our family, can we have our lessons outside of our home ?
Yes, you can either come to our location in Ravenstonedale Cumbria, or we can hire a local Community Hall at extra cost, typically £30 for a 1hour an a half session
My partner and I have no dance experience, 2 left feet and are wooden, can you help total beginners ?
It’s easier to learn a First Dance from complete scratch with no prior dancing experience. Most of our couples have never danced before and all successfully learn to dance together by the end of the first lesson. Lessons are relaxed, fun and we go at your pace
Time is taken before the lessons start, to get an understanding of what you would like to achieve, your personalities, venue, dress are all taken into consideration
The routine that you learn is a co-creation, meaning it evolves with your input every step of the way. If you would like a specific type of move added, I put it in, likewise, if you don’t like a move, it’s gone. The importance is that you both love the routine and it feels comfortable
My memory is awful, how will I learn choreography ?
We keep the choreography simple and stylish, ( unless otherwise requested ) often repeating some of the moves in verses for ease, and then repetition. At the end of every lesson, I video your last practice on your smart phone or tablet device, which maximises retention and is also a lovely memory for keepsake
My partner has a disability, can you adapt our lessons ?
All of our lessons are inclusive and adapted to suit all needs. Everyone can dance and is given the opportunity to learn, irrespective of disability. I have 23 years teaching experience with children and adults of a wide spectrum of special needs
We want to do a mix tape fun dance, can you help ?
Yes, we can mix your chosen songs and also help you choose music. The mix will be sent to you with a link to also give to your DJ on your Wedding day. This is included with our Don Perignon Package, which is our recommended service for this type of routine, as it involves more choreography to faster paced music, therefore takes slightly more time to learn
How do we know which package to choose ?
Firstly, choose whether you want to dance for the full song ( typically 3-5 minutes ) or part of it and does your song fall into the slow or fast category.
For a slow song ( like Etta James, At Last ) where you want to dance for part of it, choose the first package
For a slow song ( like John Legend, All of me ) where you want to do the full song, choose the second package
For a faster song ( like Bruno Mars, Marry You ) choose the third package
What do we need to bring or prepare for our lessons ?
It’s recommended that the Bride to be, wear her Wedding shoes ( or similar ) for lessons so that you get used to dancing in the shoes you will be wearing on the day and they are slightly worn in for comfort and ease. If the Bride to be can also wear a dress and the Groom to be, wear his Wedding shoes or similar and shirt/trousers or similar.
The intention is to get a feel what you’ll be wearing and how it feels to dance in it on the day, as near as possible
